A Focused Investor
With Operating Depth
Appian Way Capital Partners is a Dallas-based private equity firm investing exclusively in aerospace and defense manufacturing and distribution companies. We build a concentrated portfolio, so every platform receives direct, hands-on partner attention rather than oversight by committee.
Owning and operating these businesses gives us firsthand exposure to customer qualification requirements, quality system audits, prime and sub-tier program structures, and the practical realities of scaling a smaller aerospace supplier. That context is the foundation of our underwriting.

Investment Philosophy
Why Aerospace & Defense
The Appian Way was built with a purpose far greater than connecting two points on a map. It was a strategic investment in the infrastructure that allowed Rome to defend its interests, expand its economy, govern effectively, and create enduring prosperity. More than two thousand years later, the same principle holds: long-term strength is built by investing in the capabilities that matter most.
We believe the aerospace and defense industrial base is one of those foundational capabilities. Our strategy centers on partnering with exceptional businesses that manufacture mission-critical products, solve complex engineering challenges, and strengthen the industrial foundation on which our nation's security and economic competitiveness depend.
Our strategy is focused. We invest in the specialized capabilities that support multiple aerospace and defense programs rather than trying to predict which individual platform, weapon system, or end product will ultimately prevail. By concentrating on mission-critical manufacturers, distributors, service providers, and enabling technologies across the supply chain, we seek exposure to durable industry demand with less dependence on any single program or product.
Our philosophy is guided by four core principles.
01
Strengthen National Defense
We invest in companies whose products and capabilities directly support the men and women who serve. Whether they manufacture precision components, specialized materials, advanced systems, or enabling technologies, these businesses are essential to ensuring the United States and its allies maintain technological superiority and operational readiness. Capital alone does not build strategic capability. By providing operational expertise, strategic guidance, and long-term partnership, Appian Way helps portfolio companies expand capacity, improve resilience, and support the evolving needs of the defense industrial base.
02
Expand Economic Activity
Aerospace and defense manufacturers create high-quality jobs, develop specialized technical talent, and anchor the domestic supply chains critical to American industry. Technologies developed for defense often extend well beyond military applications, driving innovation across commercial aerospace, manufacturing, energy, healthcare, and advanced materials. We seek to create value not only for our investors, but for employees, customers, suppliers, and the communities where these businesses operate.
03
Improve Operational Excellence
Many outstanding engineering businesses possess exceptional technical capability while holding real opportunity to enhance operational performance, strategic planning, and scalability. We bring experience in finance, operations, acquisitions, and long-term strategic development to help management teams build stronger organizations. Our objective is not simply to own businesses, it is to help build better ones.
04
Create Lasting Value
The most valuable companies develop capabilities that cannot easily be replicated. Specialized engineering expertise, trusted customer relationships, rigorous quality systems, and decades of manufacturing knowledge create advantages that compound over time. We invest with a long-term perspective, and our goal is to leave every company stronger than we found it, preserving its legacy while positioning it for its next stage of growth.
III
Core Strengths
It's What We Do.
Capabilities we have demonstrated repeatedly, in the businesses we own and the deals we have led.
01
Sector-Specific Underwriting
We assess quality systems, qualifications, customer concentration, and program continuity from the inside, not from a desk. We own and operate A&D component manufacturers in exactly these environments.
02
Fluency in Regulated Environments
Day-to-day operating experience inside AS9100, CMMC, Nadcap, and ITAR environments. We have run the audits, not just read about them.
03
Prime Contractor & DoD Access
Direct working relationships across the major U.S. prime contractors and throughout NAVAIR, NAVSEA, ONR, and the U.S. Air Force.
04
FMS & International Expansion
An active ITAR Empowered Official on the team, with embassy and ministry-level relationships across the Baltics, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.
05
Tuck-In M&A Discipline
We have identified, diligenced, and integrated add-on acquisitions in fragmented A&D sub-sectors. Our current platform was built through exactly this process.
06
Capital Formation Execution
A clean, well-run process backed by lender and equity relationships that transact in this size range routinely.
IV
Value Creation
How We Work
A structured model for how returns are generated, across the full hold.
Pre-Close
Sourcing & Underwriting
- A sector-specific lens on quality, qualifications, and program risk
- Proprietary sourcing through our operator network and prior bankers
- Diligence anchored in customer, program, and compliance reality
- Capital structure designed to protect flexibility post-close
Post-Close
Operating & Strategic Execution
- Weekly partner engagement with management
- Targeted advisor deployment against named opportunities
- Commercial expansion into new programs, primes, and FMS channels
- Disciplined add-on M&A to build platform scale and capability
Exit
Positioning & Outcome
- Positioned as a scaled, qualified A&D supplier, not a sub-scale shop
- A multi-program, multi-customer revenue base
- Direct relationships with strategic acquirers and industry buyers
- Capital structure and reporting ready for a strategic or sponsor exit
A Partnership, Not a Takeover
- Management remains in control. Day-to-day operations stay with the team that built the business. We bring capital, credibility, and sector access.
- Aligned through rolled equity. We encourage sellers to roll equity alongside us, aligned from close through exit.
- Workforce and culture continuity. In AS9100 and CMMC environments, institutional knowledge and customer relationships are value drivers, not afterthoughts.
- Advisors deployed on purpose. Our advisors are pulled in against specific objectives, not held out as ceremonial affiliations.

Our Perspective
Like the Roman road from which our firm takes its name, we believe the strongest investments create advantages that endure. They connect people, expand opportunity, strengthen institutions, and generate value that extends well beyond financial returns.
We view investing as more than deploying capital. We see it as an opportunity to strengthen industries that are essential to our nation's future while helping exceptional management teams realize their full potential.
The companies we partner with manufacture products that must perform when failure is not an option. They operate in industries where precision, reliability, quality, and trust are indispensable. These are the businesses that quietly enable national security, technological advancement, and economic resilience.
Our Mission
To build enduring businesses that strengthen the aerospace and defense industrial base, while delivering exceptional long-term value for our investors, our portfolio companies, and the communities they serve. We believe the most meaningful investments are those that leave behind stronger companies, stronger industries, and a stronger nation.
